How my interest began…

I live in the SF Bay Area now for 26 years, and some time during the early 2000’s I picked up 'Search for the Perfect Golf Club” by Tom Wishon and I was off and running. I’ve read it 20 times, and it’s marked up more than any college textbook I owned years ago. From there, it was on to ‘The Perfect Fit’ by Jeff Sheets, and then constantly checking to see what the folks at GolfWRX, MyGolfSpy, Hooked on Golf, No Putts Given, Fully Equiped and others were talking about. I’ve learned a ton, and I’m constantly tweaking and experimenting the more I learn. It’ll never end :) So, I decided to start this blog to share some knowledge about the less mainstream golf equipment topics for those true enthusiasts and tinkerers hungry to learn as much as they can on their quest for one stroke better than the round before.

What’s in My Bag

DRIVER: Taylormade Stealth 2 w/Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 70, S, D2.5 w/4g tape on head, butt trim 1.25” to 44.5”, set to 11.25 degrees loft.

3HL Wood: Taylormade M1 (2015) w/Fujikura Pro 70x shaft, D3 w/4g tape on head, 43.25”, set to 17 degrees loft.

3 Hybrid: Cleveland HALO w/True Temper DG S300 SL, D3 w/4g tape on the head, 39.5”, 22 degrees.

6-7 iron: Callaway Diablo Forged w/True Temper DG S300, D4 w/4g on head, 6 iron w/27 loft bent 1-degree strong, 7 iron 31 degrees loft.

8-UW: Titleist T200 w/True Temper Project X 5.5, D4

GW, SW: Titleist SM10 w/True Temper Dynamic Gold S200, D5, 52 & 58 degrees, 12 & 14 bounce, Full Sole & K grinds.

LW: Titleist SM 58.08 w/True Temper Dynamic Gold S200, D5, 58 degrees, 8 bounce, M grind.

Putter (for now): Cleveland TFI 2135 Mezzo Mallet, Face Balanced, 3 loft, 70 lie, 35”, F1 swingweight, Winn Pro Jumbo grip.

I know what you’re thinking…a few old clubs in the bag. Yep. They’re classics and until I find something better, they stay. I have upgraded the bottom end and the driver though. The SM10s are 2024, as is the Stealth 2, and the T200’s are 2023 version. All have Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G grips: medium in Driver, FW and Hybrid, standard for the rest. Split-sized with the wedges.

I know what else you’re thinking…where’s are the 4 & 5 irons, and why is there a 6 iron and 7 iron from 2006? In short, I choke the 3 hybrid when I need 4 iron distance and my 6 iron is bent a degree strong to bridge the gap. And the 6 and 7 irons?…nothing, and I mean nothing, performs like or feels as good as a Callaway Diablo Forged iron.
